Drinking Tea Could Stop Ovarian Cancer
A recent study has shown that drinking tea 4 times a day can possibly reduce the risks of ovarian cancer in women. The Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) examined 2700 women with a history of ovarian cancer in their family, and although there are obvious hints on the benefits of drinking tea, its still not conclusive that tea is the major beneficiary to preventing cancer.
Dr Christina Nagle from QIMR said that the results are positive, suggesting 4 cups of tea each day can help reduce ovarian cancer by up to 30%. Moreover, it can be green, white, herbal or any other type of tea available at home. The various types of tea did not reveal any substantial benefit compared to others in this particular study.
How Does Tea Reduce Cancer?
With this experiment, its not completely clear how tea itself has helped reduce the risk of ovarian cancer, however, further studies in the US will be carried out to examine other possibilities. The data provided will be valuable information for further research. We do know however, that tea is rich in antioxidants and its assumed that this may be the key contributing factor to reducing many diseases, not just cancer.Dr Christina Nagle can’t document a definite conclusion on the effects of tea on cancer since there have been past studies on animals that suggest otherwise. Tea has shown to inhibit the growth of ovarian cancer cells, but studies on humans produced different results.
‘Many studies show a beneficial effect of drinking tea, in erms of reducing the risk of different types of cancer,’ Dr Nagle said.
‘But it seems to be that in studies in humans it is inconsistent … I think the jury is still out.’
