Cool Men's Hairstyles Pictures & Styling Tips

Cool Men's Hairstyles Pictures & Styling Tips

It would be hard to have gotten this far in life without knowing a thing or two about the damaging effects the sun can have on your skin. But how often do you think about what the hot summer sun might be doing to your hair?

The truth is that the sweltering sun beating down on your head is doing more than just making you sweat through all your clean t-shirts. The sun could actually be causing some serious damage to your hair that you will likely be sorry for come fall. Intense UV rays rob hair of its moisture, leaving your style dry and potentially frazzled.

Here are a few easy ways to keep your hair from ending up fried by Labor Day:

Sunscreen

Ever had a sunburn on your scalp? Yeah, well, it’s no picnic, especially when it starts to peel. Save yourself from a flaky, peeling scalp by putting sunscreen on areas that are likely to burn. If you have a bald or closely shaved head, sunscreen is a must!

Conditioner

Don’t use a conditioner? There’s no time like the present! Seriously, in the summertime you hair will benefit immensely from a conditioning treatment to replenish moisture lost to the sun. It will leave your hair a lot softer and more manageable.

The Almighty Hat

Don’t underestimate the power of the hat. This nifty accessory was specifically designed to keep the sun out of your eyes and off of your head, making it an easy way to protect your hair from UV rays. Don’t leave for a day at the beach or out on the water without one.

Swimming

Summer is for swimming. But swimming has the potential to be very damaging to your hair. Pools are full of chlorine which damages and dries hair. Salt water has similar effects. Perhaps the best way to prevent damage from salt or chlorinated water is to rinse your hair thoroughly before and after going swimming. When your hair is saturated with fresh water beforehand it will be less likely to absorb any chemicals or drying agents. Also, try to wash, or at least rinse, your hair as soon as possible after swimming so as to not allow chemicals to hang out on your hair for too long.

Seven Tips On Styling Dreadlocks

Fond of dreadlocks? You really do not have to be a certified Bob Marley fan or a Rastafarian fanatic before you can sport one. Usually, you wear dreads as a form of self-expression or art. Here are 7 great tips on styling dreadlocks:
  1. Limit the washing. Contrary to the norm, you should not make your hair smooth, or you will not be able to attain the almost-unkempt fuzzy look. However, you may have to wash it at least once every week if you have very dirty or itchy scalp.
  2. Be creative. You can now choose a wide variety of dreadlock styles. If you are the on-the-go type, the ponytail bun will do wonders. Pseudo-punk stars can opt for the Mohawk dreads. You have the French draids, knot roll, fancy pile-up, lock hawk, dread pony--well, the least can just go on and on.
  3. Find inspiration. If you cannot be creative enough then at least find yourself an inspiration whose style can bring out those artistic juices. You can check out several fashion magazines or follow the styles of celebrities, particularly their hairdos, or see our pictures gallery of dreadlocks hairstyles>>

You can also talk to professional hairstylists to know the latest trends when it comes to dreadlocking.
  4. Make use of natural products only. The problem with chemically based hair care products is they make the hair look unhealthier. Moreover, when the residues stay on the scalp--but they should not--they can begin itchiness.

Use natural shampoo and conditioner, like the one that contains jojoba oil, olive oil, and rosemary oil. You can shampoo once a week, but you need to condition the hair at least 2 times in 7 days.
  5. Backcomb. When you want to maintain your dreadlocks on your own but you do not know how, follow the basic rule: backcomb. This is by far the easiest, fastest, and the most natural method of creating and maintaining dreadlocks.
  6. Learn the different ways on creating dreadlocks. There are dread perms, which can be very high maintenance. If you want to spend less on the locks, you can do brush rubbing, twist and pin or rip, and dread braiding, besides backcombing.

You can also simply neglect combing your hair, but this is not highly recommended as you still need to take care of your hair properly.
  7. Use dreadhead wax. If you still need to style your dreadlocks and hold them together still, you have to use wax, but it is not an ordinary one. Pick that which is intended for dreadlocks.

Though Darrent Williams may no longer be around, he is never forgotten because of the legacies he left. One of these is the famous Darrent Williams frohawk hairstyle.

Darrent Williams was one of the famous players for the Denver Broncos prior to his death. He was a renowned cornerback, but more than just his playing skills, more fans adore him because of his hair.

Afrohawk is actually a hybrid of afro and Mohawk. Thus, to get the same hair, you simply need to cut your hair modern Mohawk style. Keep majority of the hair on the middle and let them stand up through backcombing. Braid the remaining portion of hair on the side.

However, since it is also an Afro hair, which should make any Mohawk bushier, you need to ensure your hair is curlier or kinkier.

Indeed, frohawk is another hairstyle that makes you different from the others. Nevertheless, more than just a style, consider it as a loving remembrance to the fallen Williams.

How To Use Hair Clippers

Electric or battery powered hair clippers are among the most useful of all tools when it comes to cutting and styling hair. Invented in the 1920s and used extensively by barbers and stylists around the world, clippers are now available for purchase and use in one's own home. Therefore, it is a good idea to have some understanding of how to use hair clippers.

Clippers often come with an assortment of attachments. Most of these are simply guide combs that make it possible to cut hair a uniform length. These can vary from 1/16th of an inch up to about 1 inch. In order to use them, one must cut the hair against the normal direction of growth.

If one has a particular hairstyle in mind when getting a haircut, it is best to wash the hair and allow it to dry thoroughly. While scissors work well cutting wet hair, clippers can be easily overloaded or choked down. Dry hair is essential to the smooth operation and uniform cutting one desires with clippers.

The next step is to comb one's hair into the desired style. For example, if a man wants to wear his hair parted on one side and combed over, but off the ears and collar, he would comb his hair to the style he wants. Then the clippers are used to remove the hair that hangs over the ears and to shorten the hair at the nape of the neck.

The actual recommended order for cutting hair with clippers is to start at the nape of the neck and move up the back, do the sides next to get the desired style around or over the ears, then cut the top to the desired length. With a little practice, learning how to use hair clippers can be easy, fun, and save a great deal of money on visits to the barber shop.

One short hairstyle that looks very good on Kellan is a short, textured haircut that is accomplished by doing all the cutting with a pair of scissors. The sides and back are tapered slightly. There is no need to brush this hairstyle, though application of a small amount of styling paste gives definition and separates the hair on top.

Caesar Cut

Another style that looks good on Kellan is the Caesar. This style is achieved by cutting the hair short over the entire head, then combing the top forward. It can be created with or without bangs (fringe) on the forehead. In Kellan's case, it looks better without the fringe due to his receding hairline. The hair can be held in place with a touch of pomade if one desires a little extra shine.

Boy Hairstyle

Another style of Kellan Lutz short hairstyles is a carefree boy cut. This is a simple style to have cut and shaped. The hair is brushed toward one side with just a touch of a fringe on the forehead.

This style does not require much if any product to keep the hair under control. A touch of pomade may be used to add a bit of extra shine. Otherwise, a small amount of gel or hairspray will be more than sufficient to provide hold that maintains the style.

Short Mohawk Hair Styles

There are different types of Mohawk hairstyles for people with short hair. The spiky Mohawk is the most popular. There is no need to completely shave both sides of the hair, a typical characteristic of the hairstyle. Rather, spike hairs go along the center strip of the hair.

The likes of David Beckham wear the faux Mohawk. It resembles the spiky hairstyle. The only difference is that the sides of the hair are not shaved. The spikes are found in the middle and are considerably shorter than the usual Mohawks.

For those who want to take their Mohawks to a whole new level, they can color the strands to bright shades, such as yellow, blue, green, and red. Others downplay it by sporting white Mohawks.

Women who want to channel their inner rock stars also wear Mohawks, but theirs can sometimes be more complex. They also put more emphasis on the shape of the face. Mohawks work better with those who have round or oval face since the hairstyle adds definition. They can backcomb their hair to allow a major portion of the hair to stand. To hold, they apply wax or gel. They sometimes trimmed the sides, but others opt to maintain their stresses.

If there is one thing you need to remember about Mohawk hairstyles, whether they are long or short, it is the fact that they require maintenance. The sides need to be trimmed and shaved regularly to maintain the clean look. Hair products are important to make the hairstyle last for a long time.

The short Mohawk hair styles have successfully removed the stigma that goes along with wearing them. Not only the punk rockers, the emo, or the Gothic men and women sport them. Hollywood celebrities, world-renowned athletes, and even chic women opt for the Mohawk for their edgy appearance.

A Brief History Of Hair Pomade

Hair Pomade is one of the most versatile of all hair styling products. It differs from gel and hair spray in that it does not dry, leaving the hair with a shiny, wet look that is very popular right now. However, many people do not know anything about the origins of pomade.

The use of pomade can be traced as far back as the 1800s. During that century, the most common item used was bear fat. In the early part of the 20th century, however, other ingredients, such as petroleum jelly, beeswax, and lard replaced the bear fat.

Use of hair pomade was once a great deal more popular than it currently is. Many different products and brands were marketed to create the slicked down men's hairstyles that were popular in the middle of the 20th century. Common examples of hairstyles that were created using pomade include the pompadour, quiff, and duck tail. Use of a great deal of pomade led to many young men being called "greasers" because they used so much pomade to hold their hair in place.

In today's culture, men use pomade for a variety of styles. It is used to create spikes that stand out from the head and remain stiff. It can be used to create some classic hairstyles. It can even be used to impart a wet look to hair that belies the fact it is dry.

There are hundreds of different products available on the market. They have differing amounts of oil, usually petroleum jelly, beeswax, and additives to provide scent. For stiffer hold, products with a higher wax content are better. For more shine and less stiffness, products that contain more oil or grease and less wax are best. There is a complete range in between, so choosing a hair pomade will depend greatly on the style chosen.

Understanding What Causes Gray Hair

Going gray is something that most of us will have to face at some point in our lives. Caucasians tend to get gray hair at an earlier age than Asians and other races, but sooner or later it happens to those who live long enough. In some cases, gray begins to show in the hair at a much younger age. It is, therefore, important to understand what causes gray hair.

In truth, what we call gray hair is not really gray. The strands are really translucent due to a lack of melanin, the pigment that gives our skin and hair its color. Without this pigment, the skin would look completely white and the hair becomes a translucent strand that appears as gray because of the size of the hair shaft.

Our bodies produce hydrogen peroxide as a normal function of the oxygen cycle and respiration. We also produce a compound identified as catalase that breaks this peroxide down into water and oxygen so that it can be eliminated from the body. As we age, our production of catalase decreases and eventually stops. This allows hydrogen peroxide to accumulate in the hair follicles and block melanin from entering the hair.

We also produce an assortment of enzymes that both act as aids to melanin and work to prevent its production. As we get older, the balance of these enzymes shifts more heavily toward the side of producing less of this pigment.

In addition to aging, stress and some illnesses can disrupt this balance, causing our hair to go gray at an earlier age. Therefore, it is quite literally true that your children are giving you gray hairs. For many, their jobs are major contributors as well. Anyone who notices a new President of the United States when he takes office and when he leaves will notice significantly more gray hair after just four years than he had going in. Other world leaders and those with highly stressful jobs are affected the same way.

Understanding what causes gray hair is one of the first keys to delaying it as long as possible. Stress leads to a decrease in production of melanin that would occur naturally over time, but is greatly accelerated due to the production of certain enzymes. Some illnesses can have the same effect.

Eventually, we all must face the fact that our hair is turning gray. It is a natural result of aging. The normal age at which it begins to occur varies by race, but it is unavoidable for those who live to a nice old age.
