Fifa World Cup 2010 Octopus

Oberhausen's Sea Life aquarium have flatly rejected a bid by a group of Spanish businessmen to relocate Paul the Octopus to Spain.

The celebrity mollusk who rose to world fame and acclaim during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa by predicting all 8 soccer games put before him will be staying right where he is.

"Paul will enjoy his greatly deserved retirement in Sea Life in Oberhausen."

That is what all of us should be wishing for this great fellow because despite all the offers to Paul it would mean relocating to a strange environment which will not be any fun for him.

Of course he has become a celebrity in Spain after his semifinal prediction and then tipping Spain over the Netherlands in the finals.

This led to a northwestern Spanish town trying to buy or borrow him. Officials in O Carballino, population 14,000, declared that the octopus is their "honorary friend" and wanted Paul's presence to promote a seafood festival, the Faro de Vigo newspaper said.

In addition a businessman from the town also offered €30,000 ($40,000) to buy Paul, but the newspaper said Sea Life declined.

As a result of the hundreds of requests to bring Paul to Spain, the Madrid Zoo this week asked Sea Life if it would be willing to make a deal to bring him in as a tribute to the Spanish football team's victory.

As indicated Sea Life have correctly turned it down.

Paul is now two-and-a-half with a maximum lifespan of three.

Let him enjoy his final few days doing what he loves doing. The HeirThe Heir
